Howard Austin Feld, one of Miami’s premier fashion photographers during the city’s emergence as an international arts capital, pioneered the transition from film to digital photography in the 1990s. His studio was the first in Miami to adopt digital capture, setting the stage for a new era of image-making. With commercial success established, Feld pushed digital technology into uncharted territory: using it not to flatter but to transform, exploring the human body as a site of sensuality, abstraction, and narrative. This work was prophetic, mirroring Miami’s own transformation into a city of reinvention.

Collaborating with the city’s leading fashion models, he photographed their bodies with sculptural precision and reimagined them through computer editing at a time when digital experimentation was rare. In 1997, his Digital Photographic Art gallery on Lincoln Road, Miami Beach’s cultural hub, showcased digital artworks when many doubted their legitimacy. It was a bold step, but the public responded with enthusiasm. Collectors and international audiences recognized in the work both emotional depth and technical daring, helping solidify Feld’s reputation as an artist–photographer.

Today, his studio is based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. His practice has expanded to embrace not only the human figure but also wildlife and architecture, His work is built from what he calls digital stratifications. Each piece begins with photography, but instead of stopping at a single image, he layers multiple captures together. These layers aren’t just visual—they carry memory, time, and imagination, all woven into the composition. The result is a black and white image that feels more like a dream or a story than a straightforward photograph. He then prints these works 13”x19” framed to 18”x24”  or on acrylic, 32”x48″ so the surface has a luminous presence that pulls the viewer in.”

Each Howard Austin Feld photograph is signed and produced in limited editions of forty prints. Acrylic are signed and limited editions of ten.
